El Negro Maduro - Grand Robusto

The bountiful El Negro cigar pays stately homage to North America’s first Black head of state, President Vicente Ramón Guerrero, immortalizing his life and legacy with fitting grandeur. Before ascending to the Mexican presidency (1829–1830), Guerrero distinguished himself as a foremost general in the Mexican War of Independence, leading the struggle that broke Spain’s dominion. Branded “El Negro” by his adversaries for his African heritage, his unwavering advocacy for the equal rights of all Mexicans, and his historic abolition of slavery in 1829, he remains a towering figure of courage and principle.

Brand positioning
El Negro is conceived as a regal tribute cigar, positioned for the aficionado who appreciates both historical gravitas and uncompromising luxury. It stands as a bold statement of Black and Afro-Mexican heritage, offering a smoking experience that echoes Guerrero’s valor, dignity, and unyielding commitment to freedom. Presented as a connoisseur’s selection rather than a commonplace indulgence, El Negro is crafted for those who regard each cigar as an emblem of character and legacy.

Craft and origin
This bold and opulent handcrafted masterpiece is, in every respect, second to none. Cloaked in a decadent, luxuriously aged Mexican-grown San Andrés wrapper, it exudes depth, richness, and unmistakable nobility. At its core lies an exquisitely complex filler: a sophisticated marriage of aged Nicaraguan and Dominican tobaccos, Corojo 98, Pennsylvania Ligero, and a subtle whisper of Cameroonian leaf, each component chosen to contribute structure, warmth, and layered nuance. El Negro’s binder, fashioned from magnificent Connecticut Broadleaf, provides a regal spine that enhances both combustion and flavor density. For the discerning connoisseur, El Negro is offered in an elegant box of five, underscoring its status as a curated, premium selection.

Signature flavor experience
The El Negro’s flavor profile is commanding yet impeccably refined. From the first draw, it yields soft, peppery notes that gently awaken the palate, followed by smooth, nutty tones and warm, woody accents that create a sense of enveloping comfort and quiet power. As the experience unfolds, these elements intertwine into a rich, resonant tapestry—pepper, nut, and wood in harmonious conversation—delivering a profile that is both decadent and disciplined, worthy of lingering contemplation.

Visual and tactile elegance

Queen Candace of Meroe cigar band

Queen Candace of Meroe – Robusto

The Queen Candace of Meroe cigar pays regal homage to the illustrious African queens who once ruled the ancient Kingdom of Kush with power, grace, and sovereign dignity. Drawing inspiration from the historic Candaces of Meroe—royal women who governed from the city of Meroe between approximately 284 BCE and 314 CE, many as independent monarchs—the cigar bears a title derived from the Meroitic term Kentake or Kandake, rendered “Candace,” signifying Queen Regent, Queen Mother, or Royal Woman.

Brand positioning
The Queen Candace of Meroe is conceived as an aristocratic tribute to African royalty, created for connoisseurs who appreciate both historical gravitas and sensual refinement. It stands as a luxurious symbol of feminine power and elegance, offering a medium to full-bodied experience that mirrors the depth, strength, and quiet majesty of the Kushite queens whose legacy it honors.

Craft and origin
At the heart of Queen Candace lies a sumptuous Mexican San Andrés wrapper, renowned for its dark, oily, toothy texture and naturally sweet, earthy character, often with notes of cocoa and coffee. This distinguished leaf, nurtured in rich soils, is artfully paired with smooth, often nutty Dominican tobaccos, echoing the style of refined Dominican Maduro and vanilla-tinged blends that emphasize creaminess, cocoa, and gentle sweetness.

Signature flavor experience
The flavor profile is decadent yet composed, offering a tapestry of espresso, dark chocolate, and supple leather, framed by measured pepper that provides structure without overwhelming the palate. Beneath these prominent notes, hints of cream, vanilla warmth, and baking spices mingle with the San Andrés wrapper’s natural sweetness and earth, creating a medium to full-bodied experience that feels both indulgent and impeccably balanced.

Visual and tactile elegance
Visually, Queen Candace presents itself with unmistakable nobility: the San Andrés wrapper displays a deep, chocolate hue, a refined oil sheen, and pronounced tooth that signal age and character. In the hand, the cigar feels substantial and confident, promising an even burn and luxurious draw—an elegant scepter of smoke, worthy of the royal women of Meroe whose enduring radiance it so gracefully evokes.

Mansa Musa, King of the Malian Empire
The Wealthiest Man in History

Mansa Mūsā (c. 1280 – c. 1337) stands, by all sober reckoning, as the wealthiest individual in recorded human history, his fortune estimated at the staggering sum of five hundred billion dollars. Elevated in 1312 as the ninth Mansa—Emperor—of the illustrious Islamic African Kingdom of Mali, he was the grand-nephew of the revered Sundiata Keita, noble founder of the Malian Empire. Mansa Mūsā is eternally enshrined in memory for his legendary Hajj to the holy city of Mecca, a majestic pilgrimage of some four thousand miles undertaken between 1324 and 1326. From his capital at Niani on the upper Niger River, the Emperor proceeded to Walata (Oualâta, in present-day Mauritania), thence to Tuat in what is now Algeria, before making his resplendent approach to Cairo, Egypt.

It is said that Mansa Mūsā advanced with a caravan of astonishing grandeur, comprising some sixty thousand soldiers, attendants, and heralds, all adorned in brocade and Persian silk befitting an imperial court. The Emperor himself rode on horseback, preceded by five hundred retainers, each bearing a staff richly ornamented with gold, while a train of one hundred camels followed, every beast laden with three hundred pounds of gold. So prodigious was his largesse, and so lavish his expenditures in alms and patronage, that the value of gold in the markets of Cairo was depressed for twelve years, a testament to the extraordinary opulence and munificence of his reign.

Mansa Mūsā ascended the throne in 1312 following his uncle, Abubakari II, for whom he had faithfully served as deputy, after the latter temporarily laid aside the cares of state and vanished upon the sea, having set forth with a fleet of one thousand ships laden with gold, water, and abundant provisions to discover the farthest limits of the Atlantic Ocean.

Under the august rule of Mansa Mūsā, the Malian Empire expanded with extraordinary vigor, extending its dominion over much of West Africa—from the Atlantic littoral and the great inland emporium of Timbuktu to the farthest reaches of the Sahara—encompassing the territories of present-day Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, Niger, Nigeria, Chad, Mauritania, and modern Mali. As the empire advanced, so too did Mali’s stature in global commerce, and the renown of its people rose proportionately upon the world’s stage. In this golden age, Mansa Mūsā adorned his realm with illustrious mosques and transformed ancient Timbuktu into a resplendent center of learning, endowed with refined schools, universities, libraries, and houses of worship, thus rendering it one of the preeminent intellectual capitals of the world.

Distinguished scholars have contended that Abubakari II successfully crossed the Atlantic and reached the Americas at least a century before Christopher Columbus drew breath. After his fateful voyage, from which neither he nor his companions ever returned or were heard from again, Mansa Mūsā formally assumed the mantle of imperial authority. Learned authorities have advanced the credible view that Abubakari II and his expedition arrived in the pre-Columbian Americas, a thesis supported by the discovery of numerous Malian or so-called Negroid figurines, pipes, pottery, and statues bearing tattoos and distinct Mande markings upon their faces. Traditions of Malian and Moorish tobacco cultivation, varietals, and uses in the Americas, including in the lands now known as the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua, bear the unmistakable imprint of West African genius. The eminent historian Ivan Van Sertima has rightly observed that from the medicinal use of tubbaq—tobacco—among the Arabs, and its medical and mystical application among Africans, there emerged the noble habit of oral smoking.

From their impeccable construction to their luscious Brazilian, Cameroonian, Dominican,  Honduran, and Nicaraguan tobaccos, King Musa Cigars are heirs to, and expressions of, the affluent African and Afro-Latin traditions of tobacco husbandry and refined smoking culture. The African descendants of the Malian Empire in the Americas cultivated, perfected, and innovated not only the artful “habit of oral smoking,” but also a host of medicinal and so-called magical functions that were carried across the ocean in pre-Columbian times, transferring a profound legacy from Africans to the peoples of the Americas.
